Programming Operator

All the best teams need good direction. As a programming operator you would be expected to fulfil any coding tasks requested by HostChaos LTD staff. These tasks could include modifying current code or developing code from scratch. You agree that any coding you do for HostChaos LTD is copyrighted to HostChaos LTD and the company has the right to use or distribute the code at its desire. The ideal candidate would be extremely motivated and enjoy programming as a hobby rather than all work. They will also have experience of programming within a commercial environment and coping well under pressure with a heavy work load. Knowledge of being able to write code to communicate with MySQL databases would be extremely important and being able to write code that can communicate well with other pieces of software would be equally as important. Examples of programming projects completed by the applicant prior to applying will be requested during application for this role.

You will also be expected to take time to improve your knowledge of programming in order to help you fulfil tasks more efficiently. It is expected that you will be given tasks over time that you are not familiar with you would be responsible for researching the best method to complete these. You may be required to draw up a plan on certain projects to present to certain staff before being given the go ahead to complete the project. You will also be required to review any current jobs/documents and make any changes you feel necessary. You would also be responsible for ensuring the staff team are kept up to date with any of the changes that could affect our users, close communication with department managers would be essential should question arise about any of the service.

You will also be asked to help with encouraging the use and updating the wiki page as this is where our customers can and will be directed as a form of reference. You could be asked to work in all kinds of business areas and under various environments, for example helping a team in the absence of the Ops responsible for the team in question, this can be from supporting a team or completing tasks for the department in question. Other duties vary depending on the type and size of the rest of the companies' work load, but the jobs can include assisting customers with ordering and taking part in special customer promotions or events.

Hours/Environment: Working time, your week would be between 15 and 20 hours. You should be able to commit to these hours prior to applying for this role; these hours are flexible however you should hold a presence during evening hours as this is usually our bigger demand. Your working environment would/could be working on your own or as part of a team remembering that there is no I in team, however you do need to be able to work on your own initiative.

Excellent knowledge of Python programming language.
Excellent knowledge of PHP programming language.
Excellent knowledge of HTML.
Knowledge of Tool Command Language (TCL) and mIRC Scripting Language (mSL) would be advantageous.
Reasonable knowledge of bash scripting.
Knowledge of C and C++ particularly for writing IRC modules would be advantageous.
Knowledge of SolusVM, WHMCS, and cPanel is preferred.
Good spoken and written communication skills.
A responsible attitude.
Good 'people skills' for building relationships with colleagues at all levels.
The ability to plan and prioritise your own work and other people's.
Be able to commit to a minimum of 15 hours per week.
